Consumer price indices, Slovenia, August 2016
In August 2016 annual and monthly prices were on average the same.
In August 2016 prices at the annual and monthly level were on average the same. Compared to August 2015, goods prices went down by 1.0% while service prices went up by 2.1%.
At the annual level prices were on average the same
In August 2016 the annual growth of consumer prices were on average the same. In August 2015 the price growth was negative, –0.3%. The 12-month average price growth was –0.4% (in the same period last year was also –0.4%).
On average, goods prices went down by 1.0%. As regards goods, the prices of durable goods went down by 1.6% and also those of non-durable goods went down by 1.0% and the prices of semi-durable goods by 0.3%. Compared to August last year service prices went up by 2.1%.
The annual growth rate was pushed up the most (by 0.2 p.p.) by higher prices of package holidays (by 6.0%). 0.1 p.p. was contributed by higher prices of bread and cereals (by 1.9%), vegetables (by 5.2%), telephone and internet services (by 2.4%) and accommodation services (by 10.1%).
The annual growth rate was pushed down the most (by 0.6 p.p.) by lower prices of petroleum products. Compared to August 2015 prices of liquid fuels decreased by 11.5%, and those of fuels and lubricants by 9.7%. 0.1 p.p. was contributed by lower prices of second-hand motor cars (by 8.6%), heat energy (by 8.1%), gas (by 4.1%) and garments (by 1.8%).
Also on the monthly level prices were on average the same
Compared to July 2016 in August 2016 consumer prices were on average the same.
The monthly growth rate was pushed up by 0.1 p.p. by higher prices of garments and package holidays. Prices of garments increased by 2.5% and prices of package holidays by 2.3%.
The monthly growth rate was pushed down by 0.2 p.p. by lower prices of petroleum products. Prices of liquid fuels decreased by 5.3% and fuels and lubricants by 3.3%.
Harmonised indices of consumer prices
Measured with the harmonised index of consumer prices, in August 2016 the annual growth was –0.2% (in August last year –0.6%). The 12-month average price growth was –0.6% (in August last year –0.4%). Monthly price growth was –0.1%.
Compared to August 2015, goods prices went down by 1.5%. The prices of durable goods decreased by 1.7%, of non-durable goods by 1.5% and the prices of semi-durable goods by 0.3%. In August 2016 on average service prices increased by 2.0%.
Measured with the harmonised index of consumer prices, in July 2016 the annual inflation rate in the EMU countries was 0.2% (up from 0.1% in June 2016), in the EU-28 it was also 0.2% (up from 0.1% in June 2016). The lowest annual inflation rate was recorded in Bulgaria and Croatia (both –1.1%) and the highest in Belgium (2.0%); in Slovenia it stood at –0.1%.Table 1: Consumer price indices, Slovenia
