Key statistics and a comparison with the 2nd quarter:
Fewer job vacancies …
The number of job vacancies has been decreasing for the sixth consecutive quarter, i.e. a year and a half. In the 3rd quarter of 2024, about 19,400 job vacancies were recorded, which was 1.5% fewer at the quarterly level. The year-on-year comparison shows about a twelfth decrease in demand for new jobs, which means almost 2,730 fewer vacancies, while in the real estate activities it decreased by almost half.
The greatest demand was in manufacturing, where employers were looking for 4,210 new employees, slightly fewer demand was in construction (around 3,100). More actively than usual, employers in the transport and storage activity were also looking for new employees this time (almost 2,300), which is almost a quarter more job vacancies than a quarter earlier.
… as well as occupied posts
The number of occupied posts has been decreasing for the third consecutive quarter. In the observed quarter, there were almost 802,900 occupied posts, 4,100 fewer than in the previous quarter. The largest decrease was recorded in manufacturing (by almost 2,200 fewer), followed by construction (by almost 800 fewer) and wholesale (by about 600 fewer occupied posts).
The year-on-year comparison, i.e. the 3rd quarter of 2024 with the same quarter last year, still shows an increase in the number of occupied posts in most activities. A decline was detected at the overall level and in six activities, namely in manufacturing (by about 4,700 fewer), in construction (by 2,160 fewer) and in administrative and support service activities (for almost 1,800 fewer occupied posts).
Job vacancy rate the same
In the 3rd quarter, the share of vacancies among all posts in Slovenia was 2.4%, which is the same as in the previous quarter and by 0.3 of a percentage point less than in the same period last year. The rate was the highest in accommodation and food service activities (5.0%), followed by construction (4.6%). The increased demand for new labour force in the transport and storage activity and, at the same time, the almost unchanged number of occupied posts, had an effect on the increase in the vacancy rate by 0.8 of a percentage point; it was 4.3% and was the highest ever.
At employers with 10 or more persons in employment, the job vacancy rate was 1.9%, one tenth of a percentage point lower than in the previous quarter. The rate was the highest (4.2%) in administrative and support service activities.
