New in the SiStat database: final data on the 2000 Structure of Earnings statistics
In 2020, average monthly gross earnings of persons in paid employment in Slovenia amounted to EUR 1,942, EUR, 1,619 for men and EUR 1,585 for women. The gender pay gap was 4.2%. The highest average earnings was among those with a field of education in natural sciences, mathematics and statistics.
Final data slightly differ from the provisional data
Final data on the Structure of Earnings statistics slightly differ from the provisional data published in the First Release and in the SiStat Database on 16 September 2021. In 2020, average monthly gross earnings of persons in paid employment in Slovenia amounted to EUR 1,942, which is 4.9% more than in the previous year. Average monthly gross earnings of men were 4.2% higher and average monthly gross earnings of women were 5.9% higher than in the 2019 (the former amounted to EUR 1,979 and the latter to EUR 1,896).
64.6% of persons in paid employment with average monthly gross earnings below the national average
In 2020, the median of gross earnings, which divides the population into two halves, was EUR 1,605 (EUR 1,619 for men and EUR 1,585 for women). Half of the persons in paid employment had average monthly gross earnings lower than EUR 1,605. The first quartile was EUR 1,206, which means that 25,0% of the persons in paid employment had average monthly gross earnings lower than EUR 1,206. On the other hand, only 10,0% of the persons in paid employment received average monthly gross earnings higher than EUR 3,135, while only 1,0% of the persons in paid employment had average monthly gross earnings higher than EUR 6,400.
In 2020, a gender pay gap of 4.2%
The pay gap between men and women was the highest in 2020 in the occupational group service and sales workers, 21.8%, in favour of men, and the lowest in the group of clerical support workers, where it was 1.1% for the benefit of women. In terms of the field of education of persons in paid employment, the gender pay gap was the highest among those who completed business, administration and law, and health and welfare, where women received more than a fifth lower average monthly gross earnings than men. This difference is even slightly higher when comparing the salaries of men and women with a higher level of education.

The average monthly gross earnings of persons in paid employment with a field of education in natural sciences, mathematics and statistics were EUR 2,673 in 2020 (EUR 2,853 for men and EUR 2,522 for women). Slightly lower average monthly gross earnings were received by persons in paid employment with a field of education in health and welfare and ICTs (the former EUR 2,463 and the latter EUR 2,433). While the pay gap between men and women with a field of education in health and welfare is said to be quite large, it is fairly even in the field of ICTs (men received EUR 2,435 and women EUR 2,414).

A novelty in publishing the data on the Structure of Earnings statistics in the SiStat Database are data on distribution of average monthly gross earnings (EUR) by EUR 50 class midpoints, average monthly earnings by occupational groups (SKP-08) and statistical regions, average monthly earnings by municipalities and sex, average monthly earnings (EUR) by level and field of education and sex and gender pay gap by level and field of education.
