The mortality rate due to suicide describes the suicide mortality per 100,000 population in the observed calendar year. An age-standardized rate is calculated, which allows a comparison of populations with different age structures of the population.
The standardized mortality rate due to suicide is the ratio between the number of deaths due to suicide in the observed calendar year and the number of inhabitants in the middle of the same year, multiplied by 100,000. The disease categories according to the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) included in the calculation are X60-X84 and Y87.0.
