Eurostat confirms: general government surplus in 2019 for Slovenia EUR 249 million (0.5% of GDP)

Following the end of the October EDP notification Eurostat confirmed the latest SURS data on the main aggregates of the general government sector for 2019, with slightly revised data for 2017 and 2018 due to the inclusion of one unit in the general government sector.

The October EDP revision

The October EDP revision of general government data refers to an increase in the 2017 deficit by EUR 7 million to EUR 28 million and to an increase in the 2018 surplus by EUR 4 million to EUR 337 million. The SURS data, published on 25 September 2020, are therefore slightly revised for these years.

The stock of consolidated general government debt at the end of 2017 and 2018 was also changed upwards by the revision: for 2017 by EUR 28 million and for 2018 by EUR 15 million. Data for 2016 and 2019 remain the same.

In line with the revision, all relevant annual and quarterly data for the main aggregates of the general government sector were aligned.

Forecast 2020 by the Ministry of Finance

In 2020, general government is expected to generate a deficit in the amount of EUR 3,954 million or 8.6% of GDP. According to the Ministry of Finance, government debt in nominal terms will increase at the end of 2020 to EUR 37,710 million or 82.4% of GDP.
