With 2,301 square kilometres, the Savinjska statistical region is the fourth largest after Jugovzhodna Slovenija, Osrednjeslovenska and Goriška. It had 12% of Slovenia’s population in 2022. With 113 inhabitants per square kilometre, it was among the most densely populated (the average for Slovenia is 104). The region stood out by the lowest share of people aged 80+ (5.1%). The mean age of the population in this region was 44.0 years, the closest to the national average (43.9 years). As all other regions, Savinjska recorded a natural decrease, namely -2.4 per 1,000 population, while net migration was positive (8.0 per 1,000 population). The region had the third lowest share of women, 49.2% (the national average was 49.8%). Women in this region gave birth on average at 30.7 years (the average for Slovenia was 31.1 years). First-time mothers were 29.3 years old (the average for Slovenia was 29.6 years). Mothers aged 35 years or older gave birth to 19.1% of the region's children, the second lowest share among the regions. 60.6% of children were born to unmarried mothers. The share was 8.5 percentage points lower than in Pomurska, where it was the highest, and 10.0 percentage points higher than in Goriška, where it was the lowest. The share of children included in kindergartens was the third highest among the regions (82.5% of children of the appropriate age). Among the population aged 25–64, 13.7% had basic education or less, while 29.0% had tertiary education, making it one of the regions with a less favourable educational structure. However, it is ranked among the regions with more students per 1,000 population with 35 students per 1,000 population, the same as in Jugovzhodna Slovenija and Gorenjska.

In 2022, the employment rate in the Savinjska statistical region (70.5%) was the fourth highest and above the national average (68.6%), while the LFS unemployment rate (3.3%) was the fourth lowest and below the national average. The difference between the employment rate for men (75.2%) and women (65.3%) was 9.9 percentage points. The share of persons in employment working outside the region of residence (21.0%) was among the lowest. Average monthly net earnings in Savinjska amounted to EUR 1,204, which was approximately EUR 114 less than the national average. Disposable income per capita in the region amounted to EUR 15,146 and was just 0.3% below the national average. The region generated 10.9% of the national GDP and thus ranked third among the statistical regions. A little more than 24,600 enterprises operated here; each employed on average 4.5 people.

People in this region were less satisfied with their life on average. They assessed satisfaction with their lives with the score of 7.5 out of 10. The severe material deprivation rate was at 3.7% here and in Primorsko-notranjska the second highest at the regional level. Dwellings that were in bad condition (problems such as a leaking roof, damp walls/floors/foundation, or rot in window frames or the floor) were inhabited by 22% of households, which was the second highest share. Only Pomurska and Jugovzhodna Slovenija had a higher share (23% each). The region had 574 passenger cars per 1,000 population, just above the average for Slovenia (571 per 1,000 population), and their average age was 11.1 years, while the average age of passenger cars in the country was 10.9 years. In 2022, 534,319 tourist arrivals were recorded, or 9.1% of the national total, and 1,706,996 overnight stays, or 11.0% of the national total, dominated by domestic tourists.
