Municipality Šmartno ob Paki, which is part of the Savinjska statistical region, measures 18 km2; this ranks it 204th among Slovene municipalities.

In the middle of 2022 about 3,340 people (about 1,720 men and 1,620 women) were living in the municipality, which ranks Šmartno ob Paki 146th among Slovene municipalities. The population density was 184 people per square kilometre, which was higher than the national average of 104 people per square kilometre.
The number of live births was the same as the number of deaths, which means that natural increase per 1,000 population in the municipality was zero (in Slovenia –2,3). The number of people who moved from the municipality was lower than the number of people who moved into the municipality, so net migration per 1,000 population in the municipality was positive. It was 14.4. The sum of natural increase and net migration per 1,000 population in the municipality was positive. It was 14.4 (in Slovenia 4.6).
The mean age of people in Šmartno ob Paki was 43.2 years, which was lower than the national average (43.9).
