In 2024, almost a quarter of enterprises generated turnover with web sales of goods or services
In 2024, 24% of enterprises with 10 or more employees and self-employed generated turnover with web sales. This way they generated 4.6% of their turnover (excluding VAT). With web sales to private consumers enterprises generated around EUR 1,668 million (excluding VAT).
Almost two thirds of enterprises with social media profiles
In the first quarter of 2025, 92% of individuals aged between 16 and 74 years used the Internet, 86% several times a day, and 65% participated in social media. The online presence of enterprises – such as having a social media profile or a website – is therefore crucial for increasing visibility, strengthening trust in the brand and facilitating contact with customers.
65% of enterprises with 10 or more employees and self-employed had a profile on one of the social media, e.g. Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok – 62% of small, 73% of medium-sized and 96% of large enterprises – and as regards the activity, 53% of enterprises in manufacturing and 75% in service activities. 62% of enterprises used social media for the development of the enterprise's image or marketing of products or services; 60% of small, 70% of medium-sized and 95% of large enterprises.
84% of enterprises were present on the Internet with a website – 82% of small, 94% of medium-sized and all large enterprises – and as regards the activity, 78% of enterprises in manufacturing and 89% in service activities.
Among others, 83% of enterprises presented on the website a description of goods or services they offer, catalogues or price information; 32% advertisement of open job positions or online job application and 4% a chat service for customer support, e.g. a chatbot, virtual agent or a person replying to customers in real-time.
Web sales – submission of a reservation or placement of an order for a product or service via an electronic form – enables 21% of enterprises; 21% of small and the same share of medium-sized and 40% of large enterprises; and as regards the activity, 11% of enterprises in manufacturing and 31% in service activities.
67% of individuals aged between 16 and 74 years made at least one online purchase (bought or ordered a product or a service) in a 12-month period (April 2024–March 2025) before interviewing. See more in the release Online purchases, 2025.
More enterprises generated turnover with web sales via their own website
In 2024, 24% of enterprises with 10 or more employees and self-employed received orders for products or services, reservations via websites and generated turnover with web sales (22% in 2023); 24% of small, 26% of medium-sized and 39% of large enterprises. As regards the activity, 10% in manufacturing and 38% in service activities.
Enterprises generated turnover with the sale of products or services:
14% of enterprises generated turnover with web sales of physical goods, 11% by providing services not digitally delivered (e.g. accommodation, travel, delivery) and 2% with sales of digital goods or services digitally delivered (e.g. electronic book, e-newspaper, online courses or webinars, telecommunication services).
More than a third of turnover generated with web sales to private consumers
In 2024, enterprises generated 4.6% of their turnover (excluding VAT) with web sales; small enterprises 3.6%, medium-sized enterprises 9.3% and large enterprises 2.8%. Enterprises in manufacturing activities generated 2.6% and in service activities 6.9% of total turnover.
The value of the turnover generated with web sales amounted to around EUR 4,890 million (excluding VAT).
Enterprises generated:
11% of enterprises generated turnover with web sales to customers in other EU Member States; 10% of small, 13% of medium-sized and 18% of large enterprises.
19% of enterprises experienced difficulties; 21% of small, 12% of medium-sized and 14% of large enterprises. These enterprises experienced most often high costs of delivering or returning products when selling to other EU Member States (14%), followed by 7% of enterprises who experienced difficulties related to the VAT system in other EU Member States, e.g. uncertainty regarding VAT treatment in different countries.
Trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles generated more than EUR 800 million of turnover with web sales
In trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (G 45–47 of NACE Rev. 2) 49% of enterprises generated turnover with web sales in 2024 (41% in 2023), which was 7.0% of their turnover (excluding VAT) or around EUR 2,413 million. 97% of the turnover was generated with web sales via their own website or a website of the parent enterprise, via extranet and 37% with web sales to private consumers.
In retail trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles (G 47 of NACE Rev. 2) 48% of enterprises generated turnover with web sales in 2024 (45% in 2023), which was 5.0% of their turnover (excluding VAT) or around EUR 814 million. 95% of the turnover was generated with web sales via their own website or a website of the parent enterprise, via extranet and 86% with web sales to private consumers.
More turnover generated with web sales via e-commerce marketplace
In 2024, a tenth of enterprises generated turnover with web sales via websites used by several enterprises for trading products or services (e-commerce marketplace) (12% in 2023). This way enterprises generated around EUR 603 million (excluding VAT) of turnover or 0.6% of total turnover (excluding VAT) (0.5% in 2023). 60% of this turnover was generated by small, 24% by medium-sized and 16% by large enterprises.
51% of turnover generated via e-commerce marketplace was generated in transport and storage (H 49–53 of NACE Rev. 2), followed by accommodation (G 55 of NACE Rev. 2) with 19%, and food and beverage service activities (G 56 of NACE Rev. 2) with 8%.

- 66% of the turnover with web sales to other enterprises or public authorities (74% in 2023) and 34% to private consumers (26% in 2023). The value of turnover generated with web sales to private consumers amounted to around EUR 1,668 million (excluding VAT).
- 51% of turnover with web sales in Slovenia, 37% to other EU Member States and 12% to the rest of the world.

The published data are estimates derived from the survey on the sample that represents enterprises with 10 or more employees and self-employed persons. An enterprise may consist of several ownership-related legal entities, as long as they operate on the market as one independent enterprise.
During the transition period after SKD 2025 (NACE Rev. 2.1) entering into force, statistical data will still be collected and published according to SKD 2008 (NACE Rev. 2). The transition periods will vary depending on the individual surveys.
