Almost 7% more environmental taxes collected than the year before

Government revenues from environmental taxes in 2024 amounted to EUR 1.9 billion or 2.83% of GDP.

Energy taxes represented the largest part of environmental taxes

EUR 1,907 million of environmental taxes were paid in Slovenia in 2024, which is 6.9% more than a year earlier. The largest share in the environmental taxes was that of energy taxes (86.0%), followed by transport taxes (11.1%), and pollution and resource taxes (2.9%).

The largest share of environmental taxes paid by households

Households paid 54.8% of environmental taxes. The economic sectors paid 41.7%, while 3.5% was paid by non-residents (foreign transit through Slovenia).

At the annual level, the share of environmental taxes in GDP slightly higher

Environmental taxes represented 2.83% of the gross domestic product in 2024, which is 0.05 of a percentage point more than in the previous year, when the share was 2.78%.

METODOLOŠKO OPOZORILO

Data on pollution taxes were revised due corrections of and changes in accounting methods, as well as in the classification of some transactions among taxes and reclassification of taxes by sub-sectors of general government. The revision refers to the 2010–2023 period.
