The share of energy from renewable energy sources up

According to the Directive on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources, Slovenia was obliged to achieve a 25% share of energy from renewable sources in gross final energy consumption for 2023.

Last year, the share of energy from renewable sources (RES) in gross final energy consumption in Slovenia was 25.07%, 0.07 of a percentage point higher than in 2022, when the binding target was reached through the mechanism of statistical transfer of renewable energy sources from Croatia.

In the electricity sector, RES share increased by 4.88 percentage points to 41.89%, mainly because of the large increase in electricity generation by solar power plants (by 52.48%).

The share of RES in the transport sector increased by 2.19 percentage points to 10.02%. The consumption of all fuels in transport decreased by 6.12%, while the consumption of renewable electricity in road transport increased by 49.09% and of biofuels by 19.86%.

In the heating and cooling sector, the share of RES in gross final energy consumption increased by 0.31 of a percentage point to 34.30%. The total consumption of all energy sources for heating and cooling decreased by 1.87%, and the consumption of renewable energy sources for heating and cooling by 0.96%. Wood fuels for heating contribute the most to the share of RES in the heating and cooling sector, especially in households, where their consumption decreased by 6.52% compared to the previous year.

METODOLOŠKO OPOZORILO
Data on the share of energy from renewable sources in gross final energy consumption from the reference year 2021 on are calculated based on the Directive (EU) 2018/2001 on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources (RED II Directive), which replaced the Directive 2009/28/EC on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources. Therefore, data from 2021 on are not directly comparable with data up to 2020.

Data represents the achieved share of renewable sources in gross final energy consumption according to the situation at the date of publication of the final data for the individual reference year and it does not change in the following years in case of possible revisions of energy statistics data.
