Labour and capital productivity on the rise

The productivity of labour and capital continued to grow. In Slovenia, we spend less and less labour (measured by the number of employees and the number of working hours) and capital (measured by the stock of fixed assets) per unit of value added.

Labour productivity up

In 2023, compared to 2015, 142.4% of value added was created per working hour. Nominal unit labour costs per hour worked increased. In 2023, compared to 2015, they reached 111.2%. This means that the average labour cost per hour of work is rising faster than the average labour cost per unit of output.

Capital productivity also growing

In 2022, the unit of fixed asset generated 124.2% of the value added from 2015. Capital utilization is also growing. According to the number of hours worked, fewer units of the fixed asset were used in the process. In 2022, it was required to use 88.5% of the fixed asset per employee from 2015.

In 2022, labour productivity by regions increased as well

Labour productivity is increasing in all statistical regions. In 2022, the most value added per employee was created in the Osrednjeslovenska region, EUR 58,351, and the least in the Pomurska region, EUR 45,730.



Benchmark revision and recalculation from 1996 to 2022

As part of the benchmark revision, which is carried out in the same year every five years by EU Member States, productivity indicators were recalculated for the entire period from 1996 to 2022. The benchmark revision was presented in the release Gross domestic product, other aggregates of national accounts and employment, 2023 on 30 August 2024.
