Inflation – annual inflation rate

Inflation is a general increase in prices, while the inflation rate shows the percentage increase in prices. In Slovenia inflation is measured with the consumer price index with which we measure changes in retail prices of goods and services from the point of view of the expenditure structure, which the resident population intends for final consumption at home and abroad.

In 2023, the self-sufficiency rate was highest for eggs (95%). Food prices increased by 1.4% from last September to this September, while prices dropped for vegetables (by 1.4%). In 2023, 44% of all food waste was produced in households.

In 2023, the at-risk-of-poverty rate was lower than in Slovenia in five EU Member States, the at-risk-of-poverty or social exclusion rate in one and the persistent at-risk-of-poverty rate in six. In terms of the at-risk-of-poverty threshold, Slovenia ranks in the middle of the EU Member States.

Gross fixed capital formation up the most in Obalno-kraška and Goriška
Compared to the previous year, gross fixed capital formation (GFCF) increased by 19.1% in Zahodna Slovenija and by 17.4% in Vzhodna Slovenija. It went up in all statistical regions, the most in Obalno-kraška and Goriška.

A fifth of residents of Slovenia use generative artificial intelligence tools, such as ChatGPT
In the first quarter of this year, 85% of individuals aged 16 to 74 used the Internet several times a day. One-fifth of them used generative artificial intelligence tools, such as ChatGPT and Copilot, with the highest usage, 55%, among those aged 16 to 24.

Milk price at producers up year-on-year
At the annual level, producer prices of agricultural products were on average higher by 0.4%. The value of purchased agricultural products decreased by 0.7%.

Value of purchased roundwood a tenth higher at the monthly level but almost the same as a year ago
In August, the total value of roundwood purchased from private owners went up by almost a tenth at the monthly level, while at the annual level it was almost the same.

Agricultural input prices at the monthly level slightly up again
Agricultural inputs were again more expensive at the monthly level, while at the annual level they were still cheaper. In a monthly comparison, the highest price increase was recorded in the group of energy and lubricants.

More than half of enterprises make persons employed aware of ICT security related issues
84% of enterprises arrange remote access for their persons employed, 46% conduct remote meetings, 86% use security measures for safe ICT usage, and 19% use compulsory training courses or viewing compulsory material for making persons employed aware of obligations in ICT security related issues.

Domestic energy production up, final energy consumption down
Domestic energy production in 2023 was 7% higher and total final energy consumption 5% lower than in the previous year. Energy dependence decreased by 5 percentage points.

Gross value added in forestry in 2023 stayed at about the same level as in 2022; it reached 0.6% of gross domestic product.
