Total environmental protection expenditure in the government sector much higher than the year before
The total environmental protection expenditure in the general government sector in 2023 amounted to EUR 594 million or 42.0% more than in the previous year.
Environmental protection expenditure I up by about a third
Environmental protection expenditure I is the sum of environmental protection investment plus current expenditure minus receipts from by-products and environmental protection activities. In 2023, it amounted to EUR 438.5 million, which was just over a third (34.0%) more than in the previous year.
Environmental protection expenditure II substantially higher
Environmental protection expenditure II is the sum of environmental protection expenditure I plus fees and purchases for environmental protection plus subsidies/transfers minus environmental protection revenues received from other sectors. It amounted to EUR 594 million, which was 42.0% more than in the previous year.
In 2023, the value of environmental protection expenditure II represented 0.93% of gross domestic product.
