In January 2020 the number of persons in employment down by 0.7% at the monthly level
Compared to December 2019, at the end of January 2020 there were 0.7% fewer persons in employment in Slovenia. In January 2020 around 3,000 persons were employed or self-employed for the first time, 94.8% of them were employed for the first time.
In January 2020 the number of persons in employment decreased
At the end of January 2020 there were around 895,400 persons in employment in Slovenia (0.7% fewer than in December 2019), of whom more than 94,100 (10.5%) were self-employed, 1.4% more than in December 2019.
At the monthly level, the number of men in employment decreased by 1.3% to around 491,300, while the number of women in employment increased by 0.1% to around 404,100. At the annual level, in January 2020 compared to January 2019 both the number of men and the number of women in employment increased by 1.6%.
In January 2020, the number of persons in employment increased in five and decreased in seven statistical regions (region of employment). The number of persons in employment increased the most in the Osrednjeslovenska statistical region, i.e. by more than 1,000 or 0.3% to around 315,900, while the largest decrease was recorded in the Podravska statistical region; i.e. by more than 3,300 or 2.6% to around 123,700. According to municipalities of employment, the number of persons in employment increased in 95 municipalities and decreased in 115, while in 2 municipalities the number did not change.
An overview by activities shows that the number of persons in employment decreased in sixteen activities and increased in four. The number of persons in employment decreased the most in manufacturing, i.e. by more than 2,500 (to around 206,200), and increased the most in transport and storage, by almost 2,200 (to around 57,300).
In January 2020 around 3,000 people were employed or self-employed for the first time
In January 2020 around 3,000 persons were employed or self-employed for the first time (of whom 94.8% were employed and 5.2% were self-employed). This means that this is their first formal employment or self-employment in the labour market in Slovenia and that they appeared for the first time in the Statistical Register of Employment. An overview by activities shows that most of them were employed or self-employed in construction (20.8%).
The data source for number of farmers changed in January 2020
With data for January 2020, the number of self employed persons - farmers is taken from the Statistical Register of Employment (SRDAP) and is no longer estimated by using the ARIMA model based on the number of farmers from the Active population by labour force survey.
