Average gross earnings for January 2021 2.2% lower than earnings for December 2020

Average gross earnings for January 2021 amounted to EUR 1,977.20. They were lower than earnings for December 2020, in nominal terms by 2.2% and in real terms by 1.8%. They were the highest in human health and social work activities.

Average earnings for January 2021 lower than earnings for December 2020
Average gross earnings for January 2021 amounted to EUR 1,977.20. Compared to gross earnings for December 2020, they were lower in nominal terms by 2.2% and in real terms by 1.8%. Average net earnings for January 2021 amounted to EUR 1,269.18 and were lower than net earnings for December 2020, in nominal terms by 3.5% and in real terms by 3.1%.

Compared to earnings for January 2020, average gross earnings for January 2021 increased, in nominal terms by 9.4% and in real terms by 10.2%.

Average earnings for January 2021 (compared to earnings for December 2020) decreased more in the private sector
In the private sector average gross earnings for January 2021 decreased by 3.6% compared to earnings for December 2020, mainly due to fewer extra payments (13th month payments and Christmas bonuses) paid with earnings for January 2021. Average gross earnings for January 2021 were lower than earnings for December 2020 also in the public sector (by 0.4%), while in the institutional sector general government (a part of the public sector) they went up by 2.5% (among other things due to higher payments of allowances related to the COVID-19 epidemic and higher amount of overdue payments).

Average earnings for January 2021 the highest in human health and social work activities
Compared to earnings for December 2020, average gross earnings for January 2021 increased the most in public administration and defence, compulsory social security (by 7.2%), and they decreased the most in information and communication (by 11.5%).

The highest average gross earnings for January 2021 were paid in human health and social work activities. They amounted to EUR 2,877.49 and were 41.9% higher than earnings for January 2020 paid in that activity.
