In the last year, the number of persons in employment in construction up by 9%

In January 2019, the number of persons in employment decreased by 0.7% over the previous month. Compared to January 2019, it increased by 3.1% (to 881,245). Around 58,900 persons in employment worked in construction.

In January 2019 the number of persons in employment down by 0.7% over the previous month

In January 2019 the number of persons in employment in Slovenia was approximpately 881,200. Compared to the previous month it decreased by 0.7% and compared to January 2018 it increased by 3.1% (by about 26,900). The number of persons in paid employment decreased by 0.4% (to just over 788,700) and the number of self-employed persons by 2.5% (to just over 92,500).

Compared to the previous month, the number of men in employment decreased by 0.9% (to just over 483,300) and the number of women in employment by 0.4% (to just over 397,900).

In January 2019, the number of persons in employment decreased compared to December 2018 in all statistical regions of employment, except in Primorsko-notranjska, where it increased by 0.01% (to fewer than 16,900).

The number of persons in employment in the Pomurska statistical region decreased the most; i.e. by 1.8% or by 676 (to almost 36,600).

An overview by activities shows that compared to December 2018 the number of persons in employment in Slovenia in January 2019 increased in four and decreased in sixteen activities. Compared to January 2018, the number of persons in employment decreased in five and increased in fifteen activities, the most in construction, by 8.7% or by about 4,700. 

In the last five years the number of persons in employment in construction increased by 15%

In January 2019, approximately 58,900 persons were employed in construction. 21% or approximately 12,600 of them worked in construction of buildings, 13% or approximately 7,900 in civil engineering and 65% or approximately 38,400 in specialized construction activities.

91% of persons employed in construction were men and 9% were women. 83% of them were employed and 17% were self-employed.

62% of them were Slovenian citizens, 22% were citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, 8% citizens of Kosovo, 3% citizens of Northern Macedonia and 6% persons with other nationalities.

Compared to the previous month the number of persons in employment in construction decreased by more than 1,300 or by 2%. Compared to January 2018 it increased by more than 4,700 or 9%. In the last five years the number increased by almost 7,900 or 15%.

In the last ten years, the number of persons in employment in construction was the highest in January 2009 (almost 88,300) and the lowest in January 2016 (more than 49,800).
