In 2023, 501 tonnes of plant protection products were used in agriculture in Slovenia
In agriculture in Slovenia, 501 tonnes of active substances in plant protection products were used in 2023, of which 443 tonnes fungicides, 48 tonnes herbicides, 8 tonnes insecticides and 2 tonnes other plant protection products.
443 tonnes of fungicides among plant protection products used
In 2023, 501 tonnes of active substances in plant protection products were used in agriculture in Slovenia, and wholesale on the domestic market in Slovenia amounted to 718 tonnes of active substances in plant protection products.
Of the mentioned 501 tonnes of active substances in plant protection products, 443 tonnes were fungicides, 48 tonnes herbicides, 8 tonnes insecticides and 2 tonnes other plant protection products.
Vineyards remain the largest consumer of fungicides in Slovenia
The largest amount of fungicides (348 tonnes) was used in vineyards, followed by orchards with 55 tonnes. The largest amount of herbicides (29 tonnes) was used on areas with maize (for grain and for silage). 14 tonnes of herbicides were used on areas with cereals (excluding maize for grain). 7 tonnes of insecticides were used in agriculture, of which 4 tonnes in orchards.
Of the fungicides, the most used was sulphur (254 tonnes), followed by folpet (60 tonnes) and copper in the form of copper oxychloride (25 tonnes). Of the herbicides, the most used was S-metolachlor (11 tonnes), followed by isoxaflutole (6 tonnes). Of the insecticides, the most used was paraffin oil (3 tonnes).
On average, the largest amount of plant protection products per hectare of the total base area with an individual agricultural crop was used in vineyards (21 kg/ha) and orchards (19 kg/ha). On the mentioned agricultural land, fungicides were mostly used, namely in vineyards 19 kg/ha, and in orchards 13 kg/ha. On areas sown with wheat and spelt, on average 0.6 kg of plant protection products per hectare were used, of which 0.3 kg/ha of fungicides and 0.3 kg/ha of herbicides. On areas sown with maize (for grain and for silage), on average 0.8 kg of plant protection products per hectare were used (mainly herbicides).
