The quantity of collected cows’ milk increased over previous September
Milk production has been increasing year-on-year in recent months. This September, over 5% more milk was collected from farms than a year ago. Dairies produced more cream, cheese and acidified milk, and less drinking milk and butter.
Milk production has been growing since last August
In September, around 46,800 tonnes of milk was collected from agricultural holdings, which was almost 5% less at the monthly level. Year-on-year, however, production increased by just over 5%, continuing the upward trend that began last August.
Cream and cheese production up monthly, drinking milk production down
Compared to August, dairies increased the production of cream and cheese (by 14% and almost 9%, respectively). They also produced over 2% more acidified milk products and almost the same amount of butter, while the production of drinking milk decreased by about a tenth.
Year-on-year, too, cream and cheese production up, as well as acidified milk production
Compared to September last year, dairies produced 14% more cream, over 12% more cheese and 8% more acidified milk products. On the other hand, they decreased the production of drinking milk by almost 4% and of butter by just over 1%.
In the first nine months, more butter and acidified milk, and less other milk products
Butter production was almost 6% higher and acidified milk production more than 5% higher than in the first nine months of last year. On the other hand, the production of cheese decreased by more than 2% and of cream and drinking milk by more than 1%.
At the EU level mainly higher production of butter and lower production of cream in the first eight months
Dairies in the EU produced almost 4% more butter and also increased the production of acidified milk products by almost 2% and of cheese by 1%. Cream production was down by almost 3%, drinking milk production by almost 2%, and dairies also produced less powdered milk products.
The price of raw milk in the EU slightly up
The price of raw milk in the EU increased by 0.7% in August and amounted to EUR 0.532/kg. In September, it is expected to also slightly increase.
