Correction – Economic accounts for agriculture, 2024
Correction – data on economic accounts for agriculture for 2024 are published again
Due to technical issues affecting the processing of data on fertilizers purchased outside of agricultural activities, the 2024 value was not calculated correctly. We are repulishing the data. The correction affects data on intermediate consumption and income indicators.
The value of crop production higher due to higher yields
A good harvest in 2024 with a 10% increase in yield increased the value of crop production to EUR 878 million, despite lower prices (by 2%). This represents an increase of almost a tenth (8%) compared to the previous year.
An increase in value was recorded in almost all crop groups. Due to a quantitatively strong fruit harvest, the value of fruit production increased by nearly three quarters (by 74%), despite slightly lower prices (by 1%). In cereals, the 7% increase in production value was the result of 6% higher prices and a 1% increase in yield. The value of vegetable production increased by a tenth, and of industrial crops by 6%.
A decline in value was observed in two groups: in wine (by 6%), due to a lower production volume, and in fodder crops – the largest group in terms of value in crop production – (by 5%), due to more than a tenth lower prices, despite a higher yield (by 6%).
Livestock production value at the previous year’s level
In livestock production, prices, production volume, and total value remained at the level of the previous year. The total value of livestock production amounted to EUR 730 million. Livestock production includes the value of animal output, which remained unchanged from the year before, and the value of animal products, which decreased slightly (by 1%), mainly due to a slight decline in production.
The value of livestock production increased for cattle (by 7%), due to higher prices (by 6%) and a larger volume of production (by 1%), as well as for horses (by 6%) and for sheep and goats (by 1%). A decrease in production value was recorded for poultry (by 8%), pigs (by 6%), and other animals (by 5%).
The value of milk production, the category with the greatest impact on the total value of animal products, amounted to EUR 261 million, which is a 1% increase over the previous year. The increase was the result of both a higher production volume and higher prices (each by 1%).
The value of egg production declined (by 11%) due to a lower volume of production (also by 11%), despite higher prices (by 1%).
Higher value of total agricultural production
The total value of agricultural production amounted to EUR 1,648 million, which is 4% more than in the previous year. The increase was due to a higher volume of production (by 5%), despite lower prices (by 1%).
Lower costs due to lower input prices
The prices of inputs, i.e. products and services for current consumption in agriculture, were lower (by 7%), which, despite larger consumption (by 5%), resulted in a slight decrease in the total value of intermediate consumption (by 3%), amounting to EUR 969 million.
Less was spent on energy, plant protection products, fertilizers and feed compared to the previous year. Feed, which accounts for the highest share of input costs, saw a 6% reduction in expenditure, mainly due to lower prices (by 11%). The value of feed consumption was EUR 499 million or about half of all input costs.
Higher subsidies
The value of production subsidies increased to EUR 291 million, which is 5% more than in the previous year. The share of subsidies in factor income amounted to slightly more than half (by 51%) and decreased by 3 percentage points compared to the previous year.
Higher agricultural income indicators
Factor income in agriculture increased by more than a tenth (by 15%) to EUR 584 million. Factor income per employee rose by 16% to EUR 8,308. It is estimated that 70,341 employees were engaged in agricultural production, measured in annual work units, which is approximately 1% fewer than the year before.
Data by cohesion regions for 2023
For the first time, data are also published at the level of the two cohesion regions.
In Vzhodna Slovenija, 69% of the total value of agricultural activity was generated, while in Zahodna Slovenija, the share was 31%. In 2023, the factor income amounted to EUR 319 million in Vzhodna Slovenija and EUR 191 million in Zahodna Slovenija.

METHODOLOGICAL NOTE
The agricultural economic accounts data for the period from 2022 on have been revised using updated data sources in accordance with the applicable methodology. The impact of the revision on the most important indicators, gross value added and factor income in agriculture is less than two percent. The data for 2023 in constant prices of the previous year have been corrected due to a discovered technical error.
In accordance with EU Regulation (EC) No 138/2004 and the derogation specified in Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2023/570, data for 2023 are published for the first time at the level of cohesion regions. Data at the cohesion region level are published with a two-year delay.
The project of splitting economic accounts for agriculture to the cohesion region level was co-funded by the European Union.
