Births outnumbered by deaths, net migration positive
In the 1st quarter of 2025, natural decrease (−1,785) and positive net migration (1,573) were recorded.
Slightly fewer live births and fewer deaths
In the first quarter of 2025, 4,018 live births and 5,803 deaths were recorded in Slovenia. Compared to the first quarter of 2024, the number of live births was 12 lower, and the number of deaths 156 (3%) lower. In a year, the value of natural decrease changed from −3.7 per 1,000 population to −3.4 per 1,000 population.
More marriages and more divorces
In the observed period, 749 couples were married and 506 couples were divorced. Compared to the first quarter of 2024, the number of marriages went up by 26 (4%), and the number of divorces went up by 26 (5%).
Increase in internal migration
In the first quarter of 2025, 27,703 people migrated internally, which is 1% more than in the same period of 2024.
Fewer immigrants and fewer emigrants
Compared to the same period of 2024, the number of immigrants to Slovenia decreased by 15% to 6,992. The number of emigrants decreased by 3% to 5,419. The number of citizens of Slovenia who emigrated abroad (1,251) was lower than the number of foreigners (4,168).
Positive net migration was recorded for foreign nationals (1,886 persons), while 313 Slovene citizens more emigrated from Slovenia than immigrated to it.
