After 17 years a new SKD

As of January 2025, a new Standard Classification of Activities (SKD 2025) entered into force, It brings numerous changes, reflecting the economic developments and technological change over the past 17 years. Some activities have been merged, some dropped, and new categories introduced to better align with the modern economic environment.

The most important differences between the previous classification, SKD 2008, and the new SKD 2025 are listed in the document Differences between SKD 2008 and SKD 2025 (available only in Slovenian).

SKD is used for defining activities and classifying business entities and their units in several official and other administrative data collections, for both statistical and analytical purposes. Stakeholders must update their use of SKD to the new version – SKD 2025 – in a timely manner to ensure the comparability and quality of data at both national and international levels.

Statistical transition to SKD 2025 until 2029

With the introduction of SKD 2025, dual recording of activities for statistical purposes was established in the Statistical Business Register (SPRS). This dual recording will continue until 2029, when the transition to SKD 2025 in statistical surveys (available only in Slovenian) is planned to be completed. During the transition period, data in statistical surveys will continue to be collected, processed, and published according to SKD 2008.

Update activities in time

The transition to SKD 2025 in the Slovenian Business Register (PRS) was done automatically in cooperation with business entities – the process is explained on the AJPES portal (available only in Slovenian). With the introduction of SKD 2025, the Market Inspectorate of the Republic of Slovenia has provided guidelines for enterprises and business entities (available only in Slovenian) to ensure timely alignment of their activities with SKD 2025.

An accurately declared main activity ensures high-quality administrative and statistical data. Therefore, it is important for business entities to review their activities in the PRS and in their establishment acts, and to align them with the revised classification and their actual operation in a timely manner.
