2% of children acknowledged by their fathers after they completed one year

In 2024, 8,655 acknowledgments and 26 ascertainments of paternity were registered as well as 38 adoptions, 14 of which from abroad.

Share of paternity acknowledgments before birth: 84%

8,655 acknowledgments of paternity were registered in Slovenia last year (275 or 3% fewer than a year before). In 84% of cases, children were acknowledged before birth. In the first month after birth, additional 11% of acknowledgments were registered. For 98% of children the acknowledgment of paternity was given before their first birthday. 143 (2%) children were older than one year; the oldest were aged 40 years or more.

Fathers who acknowledged paternity were on average 33.8 years old; 20 of them were aged 60 years or more. Those fathers who acknowledged paternity before birth were slightly younger (33.6 years).

Paternity was ascertained for 26 children.

37% of adoptions from abroad

38 adoptions were recorded in Slovenia last year. Before adoption, 24 children lived in Slovenia, while 14 children were adopted from abroad and they had lived in Africa.

31 children were adopted by a couple or an indivudual, while 7 children were adopted by their biological parent's spouse/partner.
