Supply balance sheets of agricultural products, 2023
Unfavourable weather conditions had a strong impact on self-sufficiency in fruit and honey
On average 130 kg of fruit, 112 kg of cereals, 101 kg of vegetables, 87 kg of meat, 78 kg of potatoes, 11 kg of eggs, 6 kg of rice and 1 kg of honey were available last year to a resident of Slovenia for consumption.
Larger production of cereals, smaller of fruit and honey
Domestic cereal production reached 667,000 tonnes in 2023, which is 16% more than a year earlier. Bad weather conditions affected both beekeepers and fruit growers. Thus, about 290 tonnes of honey was produced in 2023, which is 8-times less than in the previous year (2,400 tonnes). Fruit production amounted to 47,000 tonnes, which is almost 50% less than in the previous year (93,000 tonnes).
Self-sufficiency up the most for cereals, down the most for honey
Regarding plant balances, self-sufficiency increased for cereals by 10 percentage points (to 82%) and for potatoes by 2 percentage points (to 38%). In the case of vegetables, it decreased by 6 percentage points (to 33%), and in the case of fruit by 13 percentage points (to 16%). As regards animal balances, self-sufficiency only increased for eggs by 1 percentage point (to 95%), while it decreased by 3 percentage points for meat (to 83%) and by 77 percentage points for honey (to 13%).
