Waste indicators, 2023
A resident of Slovenia generated on average almost a quarter less waste (excl. mineral wastes) than a decade ago
In the last decade, the amount of all generated waste (excluding major mineral wastes) per capita decreased by almost 380 kg, while the amount of treated waste (excl. mineral) per capita remained at the same level. The recycling rate of municipal waste declined for the first time since 2013.
The least waste (excluding major mineral wastes) per capita generated so far
In 2023, 1,315 kg of all waste (excluding major mineral wastes) per capita was generated in Slovenia, which is 44 kg or 3% less than in the previous year. This decrease is mainly the result of lower amounts of sludges and metallic waste generated. 1,210 kg of waste per capita was treated, which is 18 kg or 1% less than in the previous year.
Lower recycling rate of municipal waste
The recycling rate of municipal waste was almost 60%, which is 3 percentage points less than in the previous year. This is the result of a larger amount of bulky waste generated, which were mostly landfilled. Compared to 2013, when it was 35%, it increased by almost 25 percentage points.
About three-quarters of all waste (excluding major mineral wastes) recycled
The recycling rate of all waste (excluding major mineral wastes) was almost 75%, i.e. 5 percentage points lower than in the previous year and the lowest in the last decade. The landfill rate of all waste treated (excluding major mineral wastes) was just over 5%, i.e. almost 1 percentage point higher than in the previous year and 6 percentage points lower than a decade earlier.
