In September, more deaths than a year ago
According to provisional data 287 more people died than were born. Compared to the same month of previous year, the number of live births went down by 2% and the number of deaths up by 9%. Natural decrease was recorded.
The number of live births down
In the ninth month of this year, 1,427 children were born in Slovenia, which was 27 or 2% fewer than in September 2023. On average 48 children were born per day (almost the same as in September 2023).
More deaths
In the observed month, 1,714 residents of Slovenia died. This was 147 (9%) more than in September 2023. On average 57 people died each day (compared to 52 in the same month of 2023).
What do data for October 2024 indicate?
According to the first estimate, 1,162 residents of Slovenia died between 1 and 20 October 2024. In the same period of last year, this number was lower (1,147 residents).
