Population increase due to positive net migration
In the second quarter the natural decrease and positive net migration continued. Total increase was 1,615.
Fewer live births and fewer deaths
In the second quarter of 2024, 4,069 live births and 4,827 deaths were recorded in Slovenia. Compared to the second quarter of 2023, the number of live births was 208 (5%) lower, and the number of deaths 181 (4%) lower. In a year, the value of natural decrease remains the same: −1.4 per 1,000 population.
More marriages and fewer divorces
In the observed period, 2,218 couples were married and 521 couples were divorced. Compared to the second quarter of 2023, the number of marriages went up by 24 (1%), while the number of divorces went down by 79 (13%).
Internal migration at the same level
In the second quarter of 2024, 24,458 people migrated internally, which is almost the same as in the same period of 2023.
Fewer immigrants and more emigrants
Compared to the same period of 2023, the number of immigrants to Slovenia decreased by 14% to 7,231. The number of emigrants increased by 9% to 4,459. The number of citizens of Slovenia who emigrated abroad (1,165) was lower than the number of foreigners (3,693).
Positive net migration was recorded for foreign nationals (2,688 persons), while 315 Slovene citizens more emigrated from Slovenia than immigrated to it.

Compared to the same period of 2023, the number of immigrants to Slovenia decreased by 14% to 7,231. The number of emigrants increased by 9% to 4,459. The number of citizens of Slovenia who emigrated abroad (1,165) was lower than the number of foreigners (3,693).
Positive net migration was recorded for foreign nationals (2,688 persons), while 315 Slovene citizens more emigrated from Slovenia than immigrated to it.
