The at-risk-of-poverty threshold and rate higher
The at-risk-of-poverty threshold was EUR 903 per month. 12.7% of persons in Slovenia were at risk of poverty and 6.8% were at risk of poverty for a longer time. 13.7% of persons were at risk of poverty or social exclusion.
More persons below the at-risk-of-poverty threshold than in the previous year
In 2023, the at-risk-of-poverty rate in Slovenia was 12.7%, 0.6 of a percentage point higher than a year before. About 264,000 persons in Slovenia were living below the at-risk-of-poverty threshold or 13,000 more than in 2022.
The at-risk-of-poverty threshold for a one-member household was set at EUR 903 per month and was EUR 76 higher than in the previous year. In absolute terms, this was the highest increase since 2005.
The threshold for a four-member family (two adults and two children younger than 14) was set at EUR 1,896 per month and the threshold for a two-member household without children at EUR 1,354 per month.

More persons at risk of poverty or social exclusion than in the previous year
The at-risk-of-poverty or social exclusion rate was 13.7%. Compared to 2022, it increased by 0.4 p.p. About 287,000 persons in Slovenia were at risk of poverty or social exclusion or 11,000 more than in the previous year.
The share of persons exposed to all three forms of social exclusion increased by 0.2 p.p. There were 0.5% or about 10,000 of these most vulnerable persons, 4,000 more than in the previous year.

Income inequality slightly higher
The Gini coefficient increased by 0.3 p.p. over the previous year, meaning that income was slightly more unevenly distributed among households. The quintile share ratio remained the same.
More persons persistently at risk of poverty than in the previous year
The persistent at-risk-of-poverty rate was 6.8% in 2023. Compared to 2022, it increased by 1.4 p.p. Approximately 123,000 persons in Slovenia were living below the at-risk-of-poverty threshold for a longer time (23,000 more than a year earlier).

The calculation of at-risk-of-poverty threshold, at-risk-of-poverty rate and other income indicators is based on the income earned in 2022.
The source of data on living conditions is the EU comparable Statistics on Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC), which was implemented with the survey in 2023 (survey year) and the use of administrative and register data mostly referring to 2022 (income reference year).
