Correction – the data on Household budget survey, 2022 are published again
Due to some errors in statistical data on expenditure in categories Housing, Recreation, sport and culture, and Restaurants and hotels, presented in the release on 12 October 2023, the data are published again. We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.
One fifth of total household consumption expenditure allocated to transport expenses
Average household consumption expenditure was EUR 24,329 per household in 2022. Expenditure for transport, food, non-alcoholic beverages and housing amounted to EUR 12,593.
Expenditure for food and non-alcoholic beverages averaged EUR 4,077 per household, which is approximately EUR 340 per month. Housing expenditure amounted to EUR 3,406 per household or on average EUR 284 per month. Expenditure for transport, which also include purchases of means of transit, was EUR 5,110 per household or EUR 426 per month.
Compared to 2018, household consumption expenditure increased by 24%. The largest groups of expenditures in 2018 were transport (21%), housing (14%) and food and non-alcoholic beverages (14%).
