The lowest number of deaths this year
According to provisional data for September, 101 more people died than were born. Compared to the same month of previous year, the number of deaths was almost the same, while the number of live births decreased by 9%.
Fewer live births
In the ninth month of this year, 1,455 children were born in Slovenia, 147 or 9% fewer than in September 2022. On average 49 children were born per day (compared to 53 in the same month of 2022).

In the observed month, 1,556 residents of Slovenia died. This was almost the same as a year ago and 221 (12%) fewer than two years ago. The number of deaths was the lowest this year. On average 52 people died each day.
What do data for October 2023 indicate?
According to the first estimate, 824 residents of Slovenia died between 1 and 15 October 2023. In the same period of last year, the number was higher (891).
