Key statistics

Compared to the 2nd quarter of 2022:

• 8% more waste collected in total,
• 2% less municipal waste collected,
• 20% less mixed municipal waste collected,
• 5 percentage points higher share of separately collected municipal waste,
• 18% more municipal waste landfilled

More waste collected, but also more recycled

Slightly more than 2.8 million tonnes of waste were collected in total, which is 8% more than in the same period last year. The difference was due to more construction waste collected, while the amount of collected municipal waste decreased by just under 2% (260,000 tonnes).

Compared to the 2nd quarter of 2022, just under 6% more waste was planned for recycling, around 867,000 tonnes, of which around 10% in composting and biogas plants. The amount of waste intended for incineration with energy recovery decreased by almost a third to around 24,000 tonnes. The amount of waste planned to be backfilled increased by a tenth, which is mainly the result of more construction waste collected as it is mostly used for backfilling. Just under 43,000 tonnes of waste were disposed of.

Less collected mixed municipal waste

The collected amount of mixed municipal waste decreased significantly, by 20%, while the amount of collected paper and paper packaging increased by 17%, of wood and wooden packaging by 20% and of bulky waste by 35%. We thus separately collected a little more than 77% of municipal waste, while in the second quarter of last year we collected a little less than 73%. The amount of disposed municipal waste increased by around 18% to 18,000 tonnes.
