Fewer live births and more deaths than a year before
According to provisional data for January 2023, 7% fewer children were born and 2% more people died than a year before.
Fewer live births
In the first month if this year, 1,359 children were born in Slovenia, which was 102 or 7% fewer than in January 2022. On average 44 children were born per day (compared to 47 in the same month of 2022).
More deaths
In the observed month, 2,166 residents of Slovenia died. This was 48 (2%) more than in January 2022 and 476 (18%) fewer than in January 2021. On average 70 people died each day (68 in January 2022 and 85 in January 2021).
In January 2023, 5.5% more people died compared to the average number of deaths in the 2015–2019 period. Excess mortality for January 2022 was 3.2%.
What do data for February 2023 indicate?
According to the first estimate, 1,178 residents of Slovenia died between 1 and 19 February 2023. In the same period of last year, this number was higher (1,538 residents).
