External trade in goods continues to grow
Compared to the previous October, the value of exports increased by 22.0% and of imports by 20.6%. In the first ten months, Slovenia exported 35.5% and imported 41.9% more goods than in the same period of the previous year.
Values of exports and imports significantly higher than a year ago
In October 2022, Slovenia exported EUR 4.4 billion and imported EUR 4.8 billion of goods. The value of exports was 22.0% higher and of imports 20.6% higher than a year ago.
The export-import ratio was 90.0%. Slovenia generated a EUR 0.5 billion deficit in external trade in goods.
Trade in goods up with both EU Member States and non-member countries
Compared to October 2021, exports to EU Member States were 16.2% higher and imports were 19.2% higher. Exports to EU Member States amounted to EUR 2.8 billion and imports from there to EUR 2.9 billion.
The value of Slovenia’s external trade with EU non-member countries was also higher. Exports to those countries amounted to EUR 1.5 billion (34.7% more), and imports to EUR 1.9 billion (22.9% more).
An important share of value in trade with EU non-member countries were operations involving processing1. Exports excluding transactions involving processing to EU non-member countries amounted to EUR 0.9 billion and were 18.9% higher than a year ago. Imports excluding transactions involving processing also amounted to EUR 0.9 billion and were 20.7% higher.
Increase in exports and imports from January to October 2022 over the same period of 2021
Slovenia’s exports in the stated period amounted to EUR 44.1 billion and imports to EUR 47.3 billion. External trade was higher than in the same period of 2021, exports by 35.5% and imports by 41.9%.
External trade deficit amounted to EUR 3.3 billion in the observed period, while the export-import ratio was 93.1%.
