Livestock slaughter in slaughterhouses, July 2022
Less meat gained than in the previous month
About 3,442,000 poultry, about 17,000 pigs and about 7,000 cattle were slaughtered in Slovene slaughterhouses in July 2022. In this way, Slovene slaughterhouses gained about 6,000 tonnes of poultry meat, 1,500 tonnes of pig meat and 2,200 tonnes of bovine meat.
Slaughter of all animals lower than in the previous month
Compared to the previous month, the slaughter of cattle went down by about 15% (about 1,000 animals), of pigs by about 12% (about 2,000 animals), of horses by exactly 10% (exactly 4 animals), of sheep by about 3% (about 20 animals) and of poultry by about 1% (about 32,000 animals).
The total carcass weight of slaughtered horses went down by exactly 20% (weight difference of about 2 tonnes), of cattle by about 16% (weight difference of about 415 tonnes), of pigs by about 13% (weight difference of about 217 tonnes), and of sheep by exactly 2% (weight difference of about 200 kg). The total carcass weight of poultry was about the same as a month before, but with a negative trend (weight difference of about 17 tonnes).

Fewer animals slaughtered than a year ago, the number of sheep and horses down by about a third
At the annual level, the slaughter of horses went down the most, by about 33%, followed by sheep by about 32%, pigs by about 14%, and cattle and poultry by about 3%.
The total carcass weight of slaughtered horses went down by about 40%, of sheep by about 28%, of pigs by about 10%, and of cattle and poultry by about 6%.
In July 2022, we recorded slaughter of 16 cattle imported from Croatia. The total weight of dressed carcass was about 4 tonnes. There was no record of slaughter of imported pigs or poultry in Slovene slaughterhouses.
