Livestock slaughter in slaughterhouses, May 2022
Amount of gained meat the same as in the previous month
About 3,603,000 poultry, about 20,000 pigs and about 9,000 cattle were slaughtered in Slovene slaughterhouses in May 2022. In this way, Slovene slaughterhouses gained about 6,400 tonnes of poultry meat, 1,800 tonnes of pig meat and 2,800 tonnes of bovine meat.
Compared to the previous month, the slaughter of sheep went down by about 50% (about 1,100 animals) and of cattle by about 8% (about 1,000 animals). In the same comparison, the number of horses went up by exactly 6% (3 animals), of poultry and pigs by about 3% (about 1,000 pigs and about 119,000 poultry).
At the monthly level, the total carcass weight of slaughtered sheep went down by about 44% (weight difference of about 12 tonnes), of cattle by about 8% (weight difference of about 225 tonnes) and of horses by about 7% (weight difference of about 1 tonne), while the total carcasses weight of poultry went up by about 4% (weight difference of about 223 tonnes) and of pigs by about 1% (weight difference of about 24 tonnes).

Fewer horses, pigs and cattle slaughtered than a year ago
At the annual level, the slaughter of sheep went up the most, by about 39%, followed by poultry by about 7%, while the number of horses went down by about 38%, of pigs by about 5% and of cattle by about 3%.
Compared to May 2021, the total carcass weight of slaughtered sheep went up by about 45% and of poultry by about 2%, while the total carcass weight of horses went down by about 42%, of pigs by exactly 7% and of cattle by about 4%.
In May 2022, we recorded slaughter of 18 cattle imported from Italy, Croatia and Hungary. The total weight of dressed carcass was about 4 tonnes. There was no record of slaughter of imported pigs or poultry in Slovene slaughterhouses.
