Slovenian consumers more optimistic than in the previous month

After a major drop in March, consumer confidence improved in April at the monthly level, but deteriorated at the annual level.

Consumer confidence up at the monthly level …

The consumer confidence indicator improved over March by 6 percentage points (p.p.), but remained below the long-term average by 5 p.p.

All four components of the consumer confidence indicator improved at the monthly level: expectations about the country’s economy by 12 p.p., expectations about households’ finances by 8 p.p., expectations for major purchases by 2 p.p., and current households’ finances also by 2 p.p.

… but down at the annual level

Compared to April 2021, the value of the consumer confidence indicator was 2 p.p. lower. It was also 5 p.p. lower than last year’s average.

The annual decline in the confidence indicator resulted mainly from more pessimistic consumer expectations about households’ finances (14 p.p.). Consumer expectations about the country’s economy improved (by 4 p.p.), while expectations about major purchases and opinion on current households’ finances remained at the same level as in the previous year.

Lower expectations about home purchase

The consumers’ expectations about home purchase lowered compared to January by 4 p.p. Expectations about car purchase were also lower (by 2 p.p.), while expectations about home improvements slightly increased (by 1 p.p.).
