In Slovenia inflation is measured with the consumer price index with which we measure changes in retail prices of goods and services from the point of view of the expenditure structure, which the resident population intends for final consumption at home and abroad.

Net turnover up in all activities
In 2021, net turnover increased by a fifth, the most in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply. There was also high growth in accommodation and food service activities, where net turnover from 2019 was still not achieved.

For the first time in ten years, the Slovenian economy generated a deficit with the rest of the world
The Slovenian economy and non-financial corporations ended the first quarter of 2022 with a deficit, financial corporations reduced their surplus, general government revenues increased and expenditures decreased, and households significantly reduced their surplus.

Consumer prices are still rising: 10.4% per year, 8.2% in the first half of the year and 2.7% per month
Annual inflation was influenced the most by higher prices of petroleum products, food and electricity, and monthly inflation by higher prices of electricity, package holidays and food.

In May, too, less milk collected than a year ago
Around 51,900 tons of milk was collected from agricultural holdings in May, which was 2.9% less than a year ago. Dairies decreased the production of drinking milk, cream and butter, and increased the production of cheese and milk powder.

In May 2022, import prices were 1.8% higher than in the previous month and 30.2% higher than a year ago. On a monthly basis, the most noticeable increase was recorded in the group coal and lignite (8.6%).

General government generated a deficit
General government generated a deficit of EUR 405 million (3.1% of GDP) in the first quarter of 2022. Consolidated general government gross debt amounted to EUR 40,225 million or 75.1% of GDP.

Changes in excise duties lowered the cumulative inflation
In the first half of 2022, there were changes in excise duties on fuels, energy and cigarettes, which lowered the semi-annual and annual price growth of consumer prices by 0.2 p.p., each.

Total market production continues to grow
The total market production was higher at the monthly level, at the annual level and at the level of the first four months. All observed activities (except construction at the monthly level) contributed to the growth.

In 2020, great impact of COVID-19 measures on the level and structure of labour costs, especially subsidies
Monthly labour costs amounted to EUR 2,464.47 (EUR 20.31 per hour worked). The highest share in labour costs was represented by employees’ incomes (88.5%), followed by employer’s social security payments (14.1%) and subsidies (3.1%); the latter reduce labour costs.
