Annual growth of consumer prices at 4.6%, monthly at 0.7%

At the annual level, consumer prices were on average higher by 4.6% and at the monthly level by 0.7%. Annual growth was pushed up the most by higher prices of petroleum products, whereas monthly inflation was mostly due to higher prices of motor fuels and clothing and footwear.

In November annual inflation at 4.6%

In November 2021, the annual growth of consumer prices was 4.6%. In November 2020, the price growth was –0.9%. The 12-month average price growth was 1.4% (in the same period last year it was 0.2%).

In one year, goods and service prices increased on average by 6.2% and 1.5%, respectively. As regards goods, non-durable goods prices went up by 6.8%, durable goods prices by 5.8% and semi-durable goods prices by 4.3%.

In November 2021, the largest upward impact on the annual inflation (1.8 percentage points) came from higher prices of petroleum products (liquid fuels prices increased by 33.4%, diesel prices by 46.6% and petrol prices by 41.5%). Additional 0.4 p.p. each was added by higher prices of heat energy (by 55.2%), motor cars (by 6.7%), restaurants and hotels (by 6.2%), clothing and footwear (by 5.3%), and furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (by 5.0%).

On the other hand, the annual inflation was pushed down by 0.2 p.p. by 3.5% lower prices of goods and services in the group communication.

At the monthly level prices on average up by 0.7%

In November 2021, consumer prices were on average 0.7% higher than in October 2021.

The monthly growth rate was pushed up by 0.2 p.p. each by higher prices of motor fuels (diesel prices increased by 4.8% and petrol prices by 3.8%) and of clothing and footwear (by 2.6%). Additional 0.1 p.p. each was added by higher prices of heat energy and actual rentals paid by tenants (each by 8.2%), tobacco (by 2.6%), package holidays (by 1.9%), motor cars (by 1.2%), and furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (by 0.8%).

There were no noticeable price decreases at the monthly level; inflation was lowered by 0.1 p.p. by lower prices of food (by 0.6%) and by 0.2 p.p. by all other price decreases in November.

Harmonised indices of consumer prices

Measured with the harmonised index of consumer prices, in November 2021 the annual growth of consumer prices was 4.9% (in November 2020 it was -1.1%). The 12-month average price growth was 1.5% (in the same period last year 0.0%). The monthly price growth was 0.7%.

On average, goods prices went up by 6.7% compared to November 2020 and service prices by 1.6%. As regards goods, non-durable goods prices went up by 7.6%, durable goods prices by 5.7% and semi-durable goods prices by 3.9%.

Measured with the harmonised index of consumer prices, in October 2021 the annual inflation rate in the EMU countries was 4.1% (in September 2021 it was 3.4%). In the EU-27 Member States it was 4.4% (up from 3.6% in September 2021). The lowest annual inflation rate was recorded in Malta (1.4%) and the highest in Lithuania (8.2%); in Slovenia it stood at 3.5%.
