Material Flow Accounts, Slovenia, 2020
Domestic material consumption down by 2.6% over the previous year
Compared to the previous year, in 2020 the direct material input decreased by 4.5% and the domestic material consumption by 2.6%. 8.2% less materials were imported and 7.4% less materials were exported. The domestic extraction decreased by 1.2%.
Direct material input 4.5% lower than in 2019
In 2020, the direct material input was 45.1 million tonnes (53.8% from domestic sources and 46.2% from imports), which is 4.5% less than in 2019.
24.3 million tonnes of materials produced or extracted on domestic territory were used in 2020. Compared to the previous year, extraction of biomass decreased by 1.5%, extraction of minerals also by 1.5%, while extraction of fossil energy materials increased by 1%.
In 2020, 20.8 million tonnes of raw and processed materials were imported (20.4% of these materials were raw products, 26.5% semi-manufactured products and 53.1% finished products), which is 8.2% less than in the previous year. In comparison with 2019, less biomass and biomass products (by 1.8%), metal ores and concentrates (by 8.2%) and fossil energy materials (by 8.7%) were imported. On the other hand, more non-metallic minerals (by 1%) were imported.
Domestic material consumption down by 2.6%
In 2020, the domestic material consumption was 27.5 million tonnes, which is 2.6% less than in 2019.
17.6 million tonnes of raw and processed materials were exported (18.5% of these materials were raw products, 24.5% semi-manufactured products and 57% finished products), which is 7.4% less than in the previous year. In 2020, less biomass and biomass products (by 2.5%), metal ores and concentrates (by 8.1%), non-metallic minerals (by 0.7%) and fossil energy materials (by 24.6%) were exported than in the previous year.
Physical trade balance 12.1% lower than in 2019
In 2020, the physical trade balance was 3.3 million tonnes, which is 12.1% less than in 2019. This means that 3.3 million tonnes more materials were imported than exported in 2020.
