Total output of the environmental goods and services sector in 2019 0.4% higher than in 2018
The environmental goods and services sector employed 29,689 full-time equivalents and generated EUR 2.01 billion of total output in 2019.
Most of the output generated by production activities
Total output of the environmental goods and services sector amounted to EUR 2.01 billion in 2019, which is 0.4% more than in 2018.
The largest share of total output was generated by production activities (EUR 985.5 million or 49.2%). The output of producers specialised for environmental services that are registered in water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation amounted to EUR 259.3 million or 12.9% of total output. The share of the public sector, which contributed EUR 88.3 million to total output, was 4.4%.
EUR 1,165.7 million or 58.1% of total output was generated by production of goods and services for environmental protection and EUR 839.5 million or 41.9% by resource management (e.g. renewable energy production, etc.).
In 2019, most of the environmental goods and services were produced in the environmental domain management of energy resources (40.1%), followed by production of these goods and services in the environmental domains waste management (18.5%), wastewater management (14.4%) and protection of ambient air and climate (14.2%).
Exports in 2019 lower than in 2018
In 2019, exports in the environmental goods and services sector amounted to EUR 773.4 million, which is 0.7% less than in 2018. 88.5% of the value came from production activities and 11.3% from specialised environmental activities (mostly export of non-hazardous waste for additional processing or recycling).
Employment in 2019 1.1% higher than in 2018
The number of employees in the environmental goods and services sector is defined in full-time equivalents. Full-time equivalent is equivalent for a person working full time at the workplace within the country’s economic territory.
