Labour costs for 2020 amounted to EUR 2,498.73, which is an increase of 5.0% over the previous year

A 5.0% annual increase in labour costs

Average monthly labour costs per person in paid employment for 2020 in Slovenia amounted to EUR 2,498.73, which is an increase of 5.0% over the previous year. The highest share in the labour costs was that of employee’s incomes, 86.4%.


The highest labour costs in activity electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply

Average monthly labour costs per person in paid employment for 2020 were the highest in activity electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (EUR 3,903.58) and in financial and insurance activities (EUR 3,683.87), and the lowest in accommodation and food service activities (EUR 1,520.88) and in other service activities (EUR 1,653.86).


For 2020 the highest labour costs in the EU-27 were recorded in Denmark and the lowest in Bulgaria

According to the Eurostat’s data and methodology for 2020 (source: Eurostat, on 18 October 2021), the highest average labour costs per hour worked in all activities (except activity agriculture, forestry and fishing and activity public administration and defence, compulsory social security) and in business entities with more than 9 employees were recorded in Denmark (EUR 45.8), in Luxembourg (EUR 42.1) and in Belgium (EUR 41.1); in the EU-27 they were EUR 28.5. For the same period the lowest average labour costs per hour worked were recorded in Bulgaria (EUR 6.5) and in Romania (EUR 8.1). For 2020 Slovenia’s average labour costs per hour worked in the mentioned activities and business entities amounted to EUR 19.9, which ranked our country between Spain (EUR 22.8) and Cyprus (EUR 17.0).
