Data on loans, consumption and savings of households in 2020 are now also available in SiStat

In 2020, almost half of the households were just making ends meet in a typical month. Detailed data are published in the SiStat Database.

Data on loans, consumption and savings of households published on 23 September 2021 are now available at a more detailed level in the SiStat Database.


The data are classified into the following groups:

Living conditions:
Financial abilities of households:
   Abilities of households: data on savings and financial situations of households
   Financial burdens of households: data on loans or purchases in instalments
Arrears of households: data on late payment of non-housing bills

Household expenditure: data on expenditures on selected necessities, namely the average monthly amount in EUR spent on selected expenditures in a typical month.

Data are broken down by income quantiles, household type, accommodation tenure status, and at-risk-of-poverty status. Data on selected necessities are also broken down by the size of household.
METHODOLOGICAL NOTE
Data from the ad hoc module "Over-indebtedness, consumption and wealth" were collected in the internationally comparable Living Conditions Survey (SILC), using a questionnaire in 2020. Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, data were obtained in two periods (from 15 January to 15 March and from 15 May to 15 September).

Data on the mentioned content were collected for the first time in 2020, and the next data will be collected in 2026.
