In Slovenia, 2% more tourist overnight stays in August 2021 than in August of record-breaking 2019
In August 2021, tourist accommodation establishments in Slovenia for the first time this year recorded more than 1 million tourist arrivals and almost 3 million overnight stays, which is 2% more than in August 2019.
In August 2021, foreign tourists generated twice as many arrivals as in August 2020
In August 2021, domestic tourists generated more than 435,300 arrivals (15% fewer than in August 2020, but 131% more than in August 2019) and just over 1.4 million overnight stays (14% fewer than in August 2020, but 126 % more than in August 2019).
Foreign tourist generated almost 584,700 arrivals (100% more than in August 2020, but 33% fewer than in August 2019) and just over 1.5 million overnight stays (88% more than in August 2020, but 33% fewer than in August 2019).
Most foreign overnight stays generated by tourists from Germany, the Netherlands and Italy
Most overnight stays among foreign tourists in August 2021 were generated by tourists from Germany (almost 435,800 or 28% of all foreign overnight stays). They were followed by tourists from the Netherlands (11%), Italy (8%), Czechia (7%) and Austria (7%).
In August 2021, tourists from Germany generated 54% more overnight stays than in August 2020, those from the Netherlands 118% more, from Italy 30% more, from Czechia 400% more and from Austria 38% more.
Over 1 million tourist overnight stays in mountain resorts
Most tourist overnight stays in August 2021 were recorded in mountain resorts (just over 1 million or 36% of all overnight stays), followed by seaside resorts (24%) and health (spa) resorts (18%).
While domestic tourist generated the most overnight stays in municipality Piran (almost 217,200 overnight stays), followed by Izola, Brežice, Kranjska Gora and Bohinj, foreign tourist generated the most overnight stays in Ljubljana (almost 190,600 overnight stays), followed by Piran, Bled, Bovec and Bohinj.
In August 2021, 21% more tourist overnight stays in hotels than in August 2020
Domestic and foreign tourist generated in August 2021 the most overnight stays in hotels (32% of all overnight stays or just over 939,100 stays), followed by private accommodations - rented rooms, dwellings (27%) and camping sites (23%).
By the end of August 2021, almost 7 million tourist overnight stays
From the beginning of January to the end of August 2021, just over 2.3 million tourist arrivals (1% fewer than in the same period in 2020) and almost 7 million overnight stays (2% fewer than in the same period in 2020) were recorded in Slovenia.
