The number of persons in employment in July 2021 slightly higher than in the previous month

In July 2021, there were about 901,900 persons in employment, of whom 89.4% were in paid employment and the rest were self-employed. The last time the number of self-employed persons was higher than in July 2021 was in September 2014.

In July 2021, the number of persons in employment increased

Compared to June 2021, in July 2021 the number of persons in employment increased to about 901,900. This time, the number of persons in paid employment increased by about 100 (to about 805,900), while the number of self-employed persons increased by about 200 (by 0.2% to about 96,000). The last time the number of self-employed persons was higher than in July 2021 was in September 2014. At that time there were about 1,400 more self-employed persons. Compared to July 2020, the number of persons in paid employment increased by 2.2% and the number of self-employed persons by 2.1%.

In July 2021, on a monthly basis the number of women in employment decreased by 0.3% (to about 405,500), while the number of men in employment increased by 0.3% (to about 496,500). On an annual basis the number of both increased (the former by 2.0%, the latter by 2.3%). In July 2021, the number of self-employed persons in both genders increased on a monthly basis (by about 100 in both), mostly in accommodation and food service activities. In July 2021, there were almost 50% more self-employed men than self-employed women (about 63,300 self-employed men and about 32,700 self-employed women), and most of the self-employed in both genders were in agriculture, forestry and fishing.

An overview by activities shows that the number of persons in employment in July 2021 decreased compared to June 2021 in thirteen and increased in seven activities. For the second month in a row, the number of persons in employment decreased the most in education, which is usual in the summer months (by 1.9% to about 74,600), and increased the most in accommodation and food service activities; i.e. by 4.9% (to about 36,600). The last time there were more persons in employment in accommodation and food service activities than in July 2021 was in February 2020.

In July 2021, the largest number of persons in employment in accommodation and food service activities was in the age group 40–44 (more than 5,200, of whom 15.4% were foreigners). The number of persons in employment in this activity increased on a monthly basis in all statistical regions (by employment), the most in the Gorenjska statistical region, i.e. by 9.8% (to more than 4,100), of which the most in the municipality of Kranj by 25.9% (to more than 900), and in the Obalno-kraška statistical region (by 8.3% to more than 4,300). In accommodation and food service activities, in July 2021, the number of persons in employment increased on a monthly basis more markedly in the letting of private tourist rooms (by 58.1% to about 700) and in other short-stay accommodation (by 60.5% to just over 200).
