In the first half of 2021, the values of exports and imports higher than in the same period of 2020

In the period from January to June 2021, Slovenia’s exports went up by 18.9% and imports by 24.9% over the same period of 2020.

In June 2021 Slovenia's exports and imports of goods were higher than in June 2020

Slovenia’s exports in June 2021 were 21.0% higher than in June 2020 (amounting to EUR 3.3 billion), while imports during the same period were 30.6% higher (amounting to EUR 3.4 billion). The value of external trade in June 2021 was even higher compared to the same month the year before last (June 2019), when the economic activity still hasn’t been hindered by the adverse effects of the covid-19 epidemic.

Namely in June 2021, exports and imports of goods were higher compared to June 2019; exports by 19.1% and imports by 26.7%. The values of exports and imports in June 2021 were also higher than the average value of monthly exports and imports in 2019 (exports by 19.3% and imports by 20.5%).

In June 2021, a deficit in external trade was recorded for the third time in a row in the current year, amounting to EUR 0.1 billion. The export-import ratio was 97.5%.

Exports and imports of goods to EU Member States higher than in June 2020

In June 2021 Slovenia maintained a similar share of external trade with EU Member States as in the previous months of this year, as approximately two thirds of external trade can be attributed to trade with EU Member States. The value of goods exported to EU Member States amounted to EUR 2.2 billion (higher by 21.4% than in June 2020) and the value of goods imported from EU Member States amounted to EUR 2.3 billion (higher by 29.0% than in June 2020).

To EU Member States, Slovenia exported and imported most products from the product group motor cars of the Standard international trade classification (SITC). Slovenia traded the most with Germany, Italy, Austria and Croatia.

As regards trade with EU non-member countries, Slovenia exported goods worth EUR 1.1 billion and imported goods worth EUR 1.2 billion. The value of goods Slovenia exported to EU non-member countries in June 2021 was 20.3% higher than in June 2020 and the value of goods Slovenia imported from the mentioned countries was 33.8% higher than in June 2020.

In view of EU non-member countries, Slovenia exported the most products from the groups medicaments and medicinal and pharmaceutical products (other than medicaments), and imported the most products from the group medicaments. Slovenia overall traded the most with Switzerland; on the side of exports also with USA, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and on the side of imports also with China, Turkey and Serbia.

Exports and imports of goods were higher in the first six months of 2021 over the same period of 2020

In the first six months of 2021 Slovenia's exports increased by 18.9% (amounting to EUR 19.2 billion) and imports by 24.9% (amounting to EUR 19.0 billion). External trade surplus amounted to EUR 0.2 billion, the export-import ratio was 101.1%.
