Consumer sentiment slightly lower in July 2021

In July 2021, the consumer sentiment decreased slightly compared to the previous month, but improved compared to July 2020 and was still above the long-term average.

Consumer sentiment slightly lower at the monthly level

In July 2021, the consumer confidence indicator decreased by 1 percentage point (p.p.) at the monthly level and was 3 p.p. above the long-term average.

The value of the indicator was lower at the monthly level due to more pessimistic expectations about the country’s economy (by 8 p.p.) and about households’ finances (by 2 p.p.). On the other hand, consumer opinion on current households’ finances and expectations for major purchases improved (by 4 and 2 p.p., respectively).

Consumer sentiment improved at the annual level

The value of the consumer confidence indicator was 10 p.p. higher at the annual level and 8 p.p. higher than last year’s average.

All four components of the consumer confidence indicator improved at the annual level: expectations about the country’s economy by 19 p.p., expectations for major purchases by 11 p.p., expectations about households’ finances by 5 p.p., and current households’ finances by 2 p.p.

Increased expectations about car purchase

Expectations about car purchase increased by 5 p.p. compared to the previous quarter and by 3 p.p. compared to the same quarter of 2020. Compared to April 2021, expectations about home improvement also increased (by 1 p.p.), while expectations about home purchase remained at the same level.
