Increase in exports and imports in May 2021
Between January and May 2021, exports and imports were higher than in the same period of 2020, exports by 18.6% and imports by 23.3%.
Imports in May 2021 significantly higher than in May 2020
Slovenia's exports in May 2021 amounted to EUR 3.2 billion and imports to EUR 3.4 billion. The value of exports was higher by 31.2% and of imports by 51.6% compared to May 2020. In May 2021, the values of exports and imports were higher than the average values of monthly exports and imports in 2020 (exports by 16.4% and imports by 27.8%).
The value of imports in May 2021 exceeded the value of exports for the second time in a row. The export-import ratio was 93.4%, while the deficit amounted to EUR 0.2 billion.
Exports to and imports from EU Member States increased compared to May 2020
In May 2021, almost two-thirds of Slovenia’s trade in goods was generated in trade with EU Member States; 67.0% of total exports and 65.3% of total imports. Exports to EU Member States amounted to EUR 2.1 billion and were higher by 34.8% compared to May 2020, while imports amounted to EUR 2.2 billion and were higher by 43.8% compared to May 2020.
Slovenia exported EUR 1.1 billion of goods to EU non-member countries and imported EUR 1.2 billion of goods from them. In May 2021, the value of exports was higher by 24.3% compared to May 2020, while the value of imports was higher by 68.8% compared to May 2020.
Increase in exports and imports in the first five months of 2021 over the same period of 2020
Compared to the same period last year, external trade was higher in 2021 until the end of May. Namely, in the January–May period exports were higher by 18.6% and imports by 23.3% than in the same period last year.
The external trade surplus amounted to EUR 0.3 billion, the export-import ratio was 102.2%.
