In 2019, more employer enterprise births and deaths than in 2018

In 2019, 6,781 employer enterprise births, 2% more than in 2018, and 7,289 employer enterprise deaths, 18.3% more than in 2018, were recorded in Slovenia.

More employer enterprise births and deaths than in the previous year

In 2019, 6,781 employer enterprise births and 7,289 employer enterprise deaths were recorded in Slovenia. Compared to 2018, there were more of both (2% more employer enterprise births and 18.3% more employer enterprise deaths).  

Among employer enterprise births, most enterprises were in the field of professional, scientific and technical activities (16.6%). They were followed by enterprises in construction (16.4%) and enterprises in trade, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles (15.7%). Employer enterprise births in 2019 employed 10,357 persons employed in that year, or 0.3% more than were employed by employer enterprise births in 2018. 
 
Among employer enterprise deaths, most enterprises were in the field of trade, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles (17.6%). They were followed by enterprises in professional, scientific and technical activities (17.2%) and enterprises in construction (14.3%). Compared to 2018, the increase among employer enterprises deaths in 2019 was the largest among sole proprietors (by 31.5%).

Among all the enterprises that operated in 2019, 9.2% were employer enterprise births and 9.8% were employer enterprise deaths.

In 2019, 42% of employer enterprise births still operating five years later

41.9% of enterprises born in 2014 were still operating in 2019. The percentages of enterprises that operated for five years were the highest in health and social work (54.7%), real estate (52.1%) and manufacturing (48.8%). The percentages of employer enterprise births in 2014 still operating after five years were the lowest in cultural, entertainment and recreational activities (34.2%), hotels and restaurants (35.6%) and financial and insurance activities (36%). 
 
Employer enterprise births mostly legal persons, employer enterprise deaths mostly natural persons

According to their legal form, among employer enterprise births legal persons prevailed (52.8%) over natural persons (47.2%). On the other hand, among employer enterprise deaths natural persons prevailed (51.9%) over legal persons (48.1%). 

Most employer enterprise births and deaths had a maximum of four employees

Compared to 2018, the largest increase in employer enterprise births (by 2.1%) was recorded in enterprises with a maximum of four employees, while the largest increase in employer enterprise deaths (by 33.3%) was recorded in enterprises that had from 5 to 9 employees. Among employer enterprise births and deaths, most enterprises had a maximum of four employees.
