1.6% less milk collected in February 2021 than in February 2020

Around 45,700 tons of milk was collected from agricultural holdings in February 2021. This was 1.6% less than in February 2020. Dairies increased the production of cream, butter and cheese.

Quantity of collected milk decreased
In February 2021, 6.4% less milk was collected than in January 2021. For the first time in 18 months the quantity of collected milk decreased also in comparison with the same period last year. 1.6% less milk was collected in February 2021 than in February 2020. The reason for that is also that last year’s February was a day longer.

Dairies increased the production of most milk products in February 2021
Dairies produced around 12,800 tons of drinking milk, which is more than 1% less than in January 2021 and almost the same as in February 2020.

After a very low production of cream in the previous month, in February dairies increased the production of cream and produced almost 1,000 tons. That was a more than 14% increase over the previous month and an 18% increase over February 2020.

February production of acidified milk was 5% higher than in the previous month and at the same time still 1% lower than in February 2020. Dairies produced around 3,500 tons of acidified milk.

Butter production increased by almost 8% compared to the previous month. Dairies produced over 180 tons of butter, which was almost 11% more than in February 2020.

In February 2021, dairies also increased the production of cheese: they produced 1,160 tons of cheese, which was almost 2% more than in the previous month and more than 7% more than in February 2020.

Milk powder production in February 2021 was significantly lower than in the previous month and in February 2020.


Less milk products produced in the EU in January 2021 than in January 2020

Dairies in the EU collected 0.9% less cow’s milk in January 2021 than in January 2020. They also decreased the production of most milk products. Average price of raw milk in the EU decreased in January 2021 to EUR 0.350 per kg and is expected to decrease again also in February 2021.
