Livestock slaughter in slaughterhouses, Slovenia, December 2020

In December 2020, about 3% more meat was gained in Slovene slaughterhouses than a month before

About 3,172,000 poultry, about 25,000 pigs and about 12,000 cattle were slaughtered in Slovene slaughterhouses in December 2020. In that way, Slovene slaughterhouses gained about 5,800 tons of poultry meat, about 2,300 tons of pig meat and about 3,800 tons of bovine meat.

Slaughter in December 2020
About 3,172,000 poultry, about 25,000 pigs and about 12,000 cattle were slaughtered in Slovene slaughterhouses in December 2020. In that way, Slovene slaughterhouses gained about 5,800 tons of poultry meat, about 2,300 tons of pig meat and about 3,800 tons of bovine meat.

In December 2020, fewer cattle slaughtered than in the previous month
Compared to the previous month, the number of slaughtered cattle decreased by about 5% (i.e. about 1,000 animals). On the other hand, the number of slaughtered sheep increased by about 79% (i.e. about 400 animals), of horses by about 29% (i.e. exactly 25 animals), of pigs by about 22% (i.e. about 4,000 animals) and of poultry by about 3% (i.e. about 81,000 animals).

The total carcass weight of animals slaughtered in December 2020 more or less followed the trends in the number of animals slaughtered. At the monthly level, the total carcass weight of slaughtered sheep increased by about 76% (weight difference of about 5,000 kg), of horses by exactly 23% (weight difference of about 4,000 kg), of pigs by about 16% (weight difference of about 320,000 kg) and of poultry by about 3% (weight difference of about 186,000 kg). On the other hand, the total carcass weight of cattle decreased by about 3% (weight difference of about 128,000 kg).

In December 2020, more cattle and poultry slaughtered in Slovene slaughterhouses than in December 2019
Compared to December 2019, the number of sheep slaughtered in Slovene slaughterhouses in December 2020 went down by about 22%, of horses by about 13% and of pigs by about 6%, while the number of slaughtered cattle went up by about 6% and of poultry by about 1%.

Compared to December 2019, the total weight of dressed carcasses of horses slaughtered in December 2020 went down by about 18%, of sheep by about 17% and of pigs by about 1%, while the total weight of dressed carcasses of cattle went up by about 7% and of poultry by about 1%.


In December 2020, we recorded slaughter of 5 cattle imported from Croatia. The total weight of dressed carcass was about 2 tons. There was no record of slaughter of imported pigs or poultry in December 2020 in Slovene slaughterhouses.
