Livestock slaughter in slaughterhouses, Slovenia, 2020

In Slovene slaughterhouses in 2000 about 14,000 fewer pigs were slaughtered than in 2019

About 1,000 horses, 118,000 cattle, 246,000 pigs, 9,000 sheep, 1,000 goats, 3,000 rabbits and 40,100,000 poultry were slaughtered in Slovene slaughterhouses in 2020.

In 2020, the total slaughter in Slovene slaughterhouses was about 1,000 horses (exactly 8% or about 100 fewer animals at the annual level), about 118,000 cattle (about 2% or about 2,000 animals more), about 246,000 pigs (about 6% or about 14,000 fewer animals), about 9,000 sheep (exactly 24% or about 3,000 fewer animals), about 1,000 goats (about 25% or about 300 fewer animals), about 3,000 rabbits (about 5% or about 100 animals more) and about 40,100,000 poultry (about 3% or about 1,296,000 animals more).

Changes in total carcass weight follow the changes in the shares of the number of slaughtered animals in 2020.

METHODOLOGICAL NOTE

Data on the slaughter of animals in large slaughterhouses are collected with monthly reports sent by slaughterhouses. Data on the slaughter of animals in smaller slaughterhouses are acquired from the Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Food Safety, Veterinary and Plant Protection (AFSVPP). Data on bovine slaughter are acquired from the Bovine Administrative Register (BAR), which is kept by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food (MAFF).
